Riverest Waterfront Resort is located in the quaint & historic town of Tavares, which is a deep south setting. We’re minutes away from Mount Dora, Leesburg, Howey In The Hills, and Eustis. Within an hour’s drive, we have many Orlando area attractions and beautiful Florida beaches.

Tavares is the Seaplane Capitol of Florida. Tavares has many festivals and events that take place year round. In addition to Seaplane events, we have Jet Ski competitions, bass tournaments, antique boat and car shows, and food festivals. A “must-see” is to take a ride on the historic Orange Blossom Cannonball, which is a 1907 steam locomotive train. It goes by many places right here in our very own Riverest Waterfront Resort.

Dora Canal: “The most beautiful mile of water in the world.” Lined with towering cypress trees and oaks draped with Spanish moss, it’s a safe haven for ospreys, herons, wood storks, and great snowy egrets. Splash Park

The Children’s Splash Park, is a Seaplane Themed Venue where you and your small children can enjoy water fun in the sun. They are open from April through September. Due to extreme popularity and limited space, entrance is on a first come, first served basis.

Proper bathing suit attire is required. Swim diapers are required for children under 4 years old. Anyone entering the Splash Park wet zone (to supervise a child or otherwise) must wear proper bathing suit attire.

Sea Planes

The Tavares Seaplane Base & Marina (FA1) is an FAA certified airport and a marina located on Lake Dora as a part of Wooton Park. The seaplane base & marina headquarters is located by the ramps at The Prop Shop.

Orange Blossom Cannonball (train rides)

Visit beautiful Tavares, Florida to begin your journey back in time. Their station, on the shores of Lake Dora in Wooton Park, is where you’ll get your souvenir ticket and board the train. They offer one hour and two hour trips that are designed to fill your entertainment needs. You will travel in vintage coaches pulled by their 1907 steam locomotive or the 1941 GE 45 ton center cab locomotive. Also check out the pizza trains, wine & cheese trains, rails & ales trains, Wild West Shoot-Outs and their fantastic trips to the North Pole. The staff is dressed in period costumes and you feel like you are stepping back in time. Visit Leesburg

Leesburg is Lake County’s oldest city and at one time was the county seat while a part of Sumter County. The city claimed 1857 as its birthday when Leesburg celebrated its centennial in 1957, recognizing the year that the city’s namesake, Evander Lee, and his family came to the area.

While Lee became the area’s first permanent settler, Thomas Robertson and his 21-year-old son, John Marmaduke Robertson came to what would become Leesburg in 1843, or likely a year sooner. They lived in what would become the heart of Leesburg for 11 years before Thomas sold out and moved back to Moss Bluff. John later sold his property and founded the nearby community of Whitney.

Silver Springs

Pioneer Florida Museum & Village

On display are tools of the Florida Pioneer Man, showing how he built his house, made his furniture, plowed his fields, harvested his crops, and did his leather-work and blacksmithing. Also the Trilby Depot, the Lacoochee one room schoolhouse, is a 100 year old building. Methodist Church from Enterprise and the two story 1864 restored Overstreet House.

The Pioneer Florida Museum hopes to show that the men and women who were here before us, struggled, Made Do , and sometimes won and sometimes lost their battles with nature. In essence, they were people much like us.
